Biography: Julius Boros was an American professional golfer who, over his career, has won 18 PGA Tour events and three major championships, including two U.S. Opens and one PGA Championship. He also played on four winning Ryder Cup teams and was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame.
Boros turned professional at the age of 29 in 1949 after working as an accountant and playing high-standard amateur golf. His first major victory came in the 1952 U.S. Open where he triumphed over Ben Hogan. He won his second U.S. Open in 1963, defeating Arnold Palmer in a playoff, and his third major at the 1968 PGA Championship, becoming the oldest winner of a modern major at the time, at age 48.
Throughout his career, Boros was known for his effortless swing and effective short game. His catchphrase "swing easy, hit hard" was emblematic of his playing style. He was recognized for his efficient play, not wasting time on the course. In 1952 and 1963, Boros was named PGA Player of the Year and his career earnings exceeded $1 million.
Boros married twice and had seven children. His personal commitment to golf was evidenced by his role in founding the Senior PGA Tour, which now provides opportunities for golfers past the typical age of tour competition.
